Spare Time? Form a Book Club!

Every club is different, with different members reading books about different topics. Here are a few tips for you are your own reading group.

First, you need a few interested friends. 6-8 persons is an ideal size, just enough to get a lively discussion. Once you have a few dedicated partners find that you each bring one or two additional people in the group. You can find possible candidates for the job, school or church. If you have trouble rounding up enough interest,Try posting a flyer at your local library or a bookstore nearby.

Next, decide, what to read! About 55-year-olds in general subjects such as politics, interested in the fiction on environmental issues. You can see that passions run high on the subject. Some groups choose all their books for the coming year in the first session, others take a month to month.

Finally, determine how often you will meet, and at what time. If the members of your association are retired, you might have more flexibility in your schedules. 4-5 weeks is usually enough time to ensure that everyone can finish the book assigned.
