I was with an early breakfast at the Intercontinental Hotel in New York some years ago. In the sunny breakfast room floor, a group of high-powered strategists, all women, set at the next table. I had suffered with the recent policy decisions and was dismayed by the current trends of the vote. I heard the offer on the table of women my services as a psychotherapist, gave them my resume and suggested that I could help with campaign strategy.
An impressive woman with gray hair, steeland a dark suit, turned to me and asked me if I minded answering a question. I replied that I was happy to help. Proudly presented Nancy Pelosi, Representative Pelosi then ... not have our first woman Speaker of the House. Nancy Pelosi turned to me with her dark eyes sparkle intensive and asked me whether I think Hillary Clinton could be the next President of the United States.
I gulped. That was my chance, a feminist who support them and cast a vote for all women. For every maleScherz, violent act or rule, which had gone too far, I wanted to help even the playing field. I wanted to get to join the discussion well-heeled town of Women's' to be part of the Movers and shakers who make a difference in the lives of millions of people with one voice, stupidity and cronyism in Washington, challenging, and I believe that use of defeating cruelty and prejudice. I wanted to say: "Absolutely yes, Hillary a great president."
Then I thought of the people I had grown up inCentral Illinois. I could imagine her on the cafe chairs in cafes, at Maid-Rite hamburger counter, and Luncheonette. They spoke of the mines, gossip and local traditions. Voting for a female president would be inconceivable to the kind of men I known there. As I traveled the country over the years, I saw shun and humiliate drawn ridicule, and women who fought for the equality of competitive risk men who believed in their own right to prevent. IThousands of people advise. No matter what these men would say in public, private voting booth they will vote for their own way, every time.
The faces of the women fell, as I said, "No, not yet." Not leave the underlying prejudices and chauvinism has, but in too many older voters under water, "I explained. However, that five years ago. What now?
We had all the prejudices against the powerful of the Sixties collapsed programmed old norms and stigmatization. Those whosurvived the sixties are old enough to take on the responsibility and bear the torch of freedom. But who actually goes to the polls? Not college kids or Gore would have been a clear winner. Not the angry old hippies or Kerry would have been a shoe-in.
Younger men and women have friends of different race, sexual orientation and gender. The older people still adhere to their own, often fear the unknown. Those who choose the rank and file to the same people who sit in the cafeChairs shall Caterpillar or John Deer caps. They appreciate their voices and make them take the trouble to vote. But they agree with their stance of the 1950s and that is how the elections have slightly traditional scare voters with words like gays, abortion and cloning research has been tampered with.
What about the new kind of man who has emerged in our society? This diversity of people was raised by strong women with more freedom and who are more free, an original, but a copy.He is confident in himself, rather than a role, as the man I married. A man who would openly embrace his child, you hear an intelligent women on television talk about important issues and to make a woman worthy of pride, a lot of money? Can consciousness raising gentle man voting for a woman? Is he voting?
When women and men voted in gently, what happened to Kerry when he ran for office? He was a loving father, his wife is a dynamic leader and role model, but he lost, even with the followingStats
Kerry and Edwards on Bush-Cheney preference among voters 18-29 years (59% -37%); 65 years and older (49% -46%), women (52% - 42%) and singles (62% -26 %). (Zogby.com)
Look at these statistics and see who the win for GWB too. "Bush-Cheney administration is preferred among voters 50-64 years (49% -46%), men (50% -43%) and married (53% -42%)." (Zogby.com). Baby Boomer men showed their muscle in the 2004 elections, and voted for George Bush as cracks, with whom it would be coolto have a beer. They voted for their own kind, one of the boys. Now our country is torn to fight and needs an adult, a leading manufacturer.
What is in this fast-approaching election in 2008 happen?
"As they gain wide support in nationwide samples among Democrats in the race for their party's presidential nomination, said half of likely voters nationwide, they would never to New York Senator Hillary Clinton, a new Zogby Interactive poll shows vote polling data ... by 9718likely voters nationwide showed that 50% indicated that Clinton would never vote in their president. This is done by 46% who said they were unable to vote for Clinton in a Zogby International telephone survey conducted in early March. Older voters are most against Clinton-59% of people aged 65 years and older said they would never vote for New York Senator, but it is much more acceptable to younger voters: 42% of those age 18-29 said they would never vote for Clinton for President. "http://bbsnews.net/article.php/20071021131317357
Over half of 18-29 year olds would vote for Hillary ... But they vote for? Do they have to get up early in the morning, making progress in rain and snow for hours to get her a voice. Young people from a lot of noise last elections, but they did not "turn out on election day when it counted. Do Older voters "turn out" and say 59%, they are not inclined toward Hillary. Can America afford to keep the same ole 'game?
Historically, the very peoplewhat it the last time and will do again next time. What can people out of their comfort zone domination in a new way of thinking? Perhaps the change is too difficult for heavily brain washed people who are fifty years old and older. After eight years of tortuous political fiasco and the death of so many voters will likely elect another white male baby boomers with a touch of gray and a $ 1000 suit and cling to the perception of what looks like an American president, or we can do, something newFresh and perhaps smart?
Are there enough people who are younger and less escape programmed to the belief that presidents are white men, because .... they just are? And this time they will actually take over the responsibility to vote as an American and?
I have changed since Representative Pelosi and I met in this high-rise breakfast room. Today I think it is possible to choose for the United States, an African American, a Latino or a woman. We all have developed enough to look at the pastbeyond color or gender a candidate for the strong position in the world and see instead the ability and leadership within the person that the world needs so desperately.
I think Nancy would be happy if she knew that she spoke to a baby boomer who loves Maid Rites and a Caterpillar hat and could not, and will vote for every one of them.
